My male cat will be fixed soon. What are some things that should know about taking care of him afterward?

Huh? A mommy cat can't be neutered.
But, just make sure HE doesn't lick at the stitches. Sometimes the vet will put one of those cones around his neck to stop him from doing that.
No water on incision site, no jumping
You will want to keep his vigorous activity to a minimum, especially jumping. Keep him quite and if you have other animals, I would keep him segregated for a few days. Just watch his incision for redness and leaking.
He'll be easily startled for a while due to the sudden hormonal change, so you'll want to be gentle around him. I'm sure you are kind to him anyway, but be extra nice. Your vet may tell you this. Otherwise, males seem to do pretty well. Keep him inside at least until he's healed. A good vet should give you specific instructions. Cats will surprise you with how much they think they can do and you shouldn't let him do anything vigorous for a while. Watch to see that he is healing well. Of course, you probably won't bathe him anyway, but no baths until he is fully healed.

Here's a thumbs up and a pat on the back for having your kitty neutered! Fortunately, you won't have to do much for your newly defrocked friend except keep and eye on the incision and make sure it doesn't become red and inflamed or weepy. If it does, you'll need to call the vet. When you get him home, and for the next few days, you'll probably want to keep him reasonably quiet (i.e., no jumping off the top of the refrigerator or charging after the mouse that just had a drink from his water bowl). If he's the outdoor type, you should keep him inside for about a week to allow the incision to heal. Your vet will tell you what to watch for and if there's anything special you'll need to do.
