Since a cat has retractable claws?

when it takes them out and displays them what is that called
Answers:
People are calling this "splaying", a term I've never heard though I've worked for vets and owned cats for over 40 years.

When my cats are happy, they "knead bread". :-) They extend their claws happily one foot after the other "making bread". A friend of mine recently commented "after watching your cats making bread, I finally have one that does it too." :-)

Push, Push, Push, Push - one foot after another. HAPPY SOUL!
i think that's called a threat as in " leave me alone or you won't be having a eye any longer."
Splaying (as in stretching out)?
IT'S CALLED A REASON TO DE CLAW YOU CAT. IF YOU KEEP THEM IN THE HOUSE, IT'S THE BEST WAY, FOR YOUR SKIN, CLOTHES AND FURNITURE.
it means that fluffy is mad as hell and about to play cheese grater (shred) something
It's called splaying, normally it takes place when a car is stretching. Also cats tend to extend their claws when they are kneeding (I call it softening) that is when the cat extends and retracts its claws while stomping up and down on you. At most times however cats keep their nails sheethed.
it's just part of your cat's natural instinct to scratch and sharpen his or her claws. scratching is also a way of marking territory. the claws also come out when he or she stretches, i don't think there's a name for it.
ie: don't declaw your cat! it's cruel!
I call it splaying. When my cat washes between his toes, he sticks his foot out with his toes all spread apart, and the claws are all out. Splaying. It's too cute for words.
depends on the mood of the cat
