Stopping epilipsy?

I was wondering if you can snap your cat out from she's having a siezure? Is there a way to stop it when it's happening, rather to watch her struggle. I don't know if she's in real pain when it happenes and I feel bad because I can't do anything about it.

Hi Jenny.unfortunately, there isn't any way to stop the epileptic fits without medication. Generally, we recommend that when the cats are having a seizure to be sure they are in a small padded enclosure to prevent themselves from any injuries sustained while moving uncontrollably.

Here's an article on feline epilepsy and how it's best managed: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?.
hello

i am epileptic. No there isn't anything you can do to make her snap out of it. She won't remember it happening and she won't be in any painwhile it is happening, but will feel very tired when she wakes up. While she is having the fit hold her and make sure she can't bang into things. There isn't alot you can do to assist just let it take its course. Im asuming you have but if you havn't take her to the vet and they can sort out some medication for her to have.
hope ive helped.

I was told that an animal doesn't really know what is happening to it. I would NOT try to stop a seizure as you may get hurt or worse, hurt your cat.

I would see your vet for treatment options as epilepsy is a treatable disease.
I don'[t agree with the other posters. I gather you want to do something for your cat when she is having a siezure. You can use Rescue Remedy a blend of five Bach flower essences which you can get at a health foods store for under $20. It cannot harm her in any way. It is not a drug and will not stop a seizure and it will make her go through it with less stress.

You simply shake the bottle well and apply three to four drops to the fur between her ears. Apply it as often as you can until you can see that she is getting some relief.

Many veterinarians (including one of mine) use this when a cat is in a stressful situation.
Hey Jenny.seizures can't be stopped with herbal remedies like Rescue Remedy! It only calms them during the stress. My cousin's cat has grand mal seizures and the vet had to give it phenobarbitol (sp?) to control them. She was also told to keep the cat restrained in a crate until the seizure's pass so it won't hurt itself. She was also told that cats will not feel the pain during the episode, but become very exhausted afterwards. Anyhow, Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that needs vet medical care not herbal remedies.
