Sushi gave birth! See question below.?

My cat Sushi just gave birth this morning. She's way over due and the first baby was born paw and tail first, out of the sack. It took nearly 20 minutes to give birth and I thought it was dead but i was letting the mother lick it anyways (her first litter). After a while the baby started to cry - its alive! I've heard that constant licking stimulates breathing and after about 10 mins or so after birth it began to cry.
I feel so bad that I had to leave her and go to school - where I am now - and hope she and the others will be okay. I don't know if she's only going to have one baby or if she's had more after I left.

So. I guess my questions are:
'What kind of side effects will the kitten have if it survives for a long time?'
and
'If Sushi has more kittnes with this litter, what is the chance of them being born out of the sack too?'
Answers:
Sushi sounds like she will be a good mom. She was bathing the kitten so she should accept it and take care of it. The total birthing process takes a few hours, I'd bet she will have a few more.
When you get home and check on her, just look in the bed but don't pick up or touch the babies. Let Sushi take care of business as she needs to. Have some fresh water and food near the bed, not inside it. She may not leave the box for the whole day, but that's normal. As much as you want to show off the kits to friends, Sushi needs to be left alone with them. No visitors til their eyes are open!! No picking up or touching untill their eyes start opening. If a crowd shows up at bedside she may feel like the babies are at risk and try to move them somewhere away from all the attention. Having strangers over that early may cause her to abandon the litter- keep it low key until they are a couple weeks old at least!! ( and I know how hard that is to do!!)
Being born out of the sack is ok. If the kittens are born with sack intact she should have the instinct to open it. You can call the vet office when you get home to ask if there is much else you need to do beyond letting Sushi do her job.
Congrats and good luck!!
no idea sorry
Awwwwww how cute! Sorry I can't answer your question but I will keep my fingers crossed for the little guy. Let us know if Sushi has any more babies! xx
I have never seen a cat give birth to just one. Complications can occur, especially in a first litter and the mother is young. Here is a list of what to watch for:

You should contact your veterinarian if events do not unfold as I have generally listed them. Also contact your veterinarian if:
1) The pregnancy lasts more than 66 days
2) The mother鈥檚 temperature has been below a hundred for more than one day
3) The mother goes off food or becomes depressed, weak or lethargic
4) A kitten becomes lodged in the birth canal for more than ten minutes and you can not dislodge it
5) The mother continues to have contractions for more than four hours and no kitten appears
6) More than five hours elapse when you are certain another kitten is still present in the mother
7) The vaginal discharge has a strong odor or appears infected
8) You counted less placentas than you have kittens
9) Kittens will not nurse or appear weak
10) A mammary gland (breast) is hot, hard or painful
11) Kittens mew continuously, do not sleep and are agitated
12) Kittens are not receiving enough milk to keep their stomachs plump and distended
13) The Mother鈥檚 temperature is over 102.5 and two days have passed since birthing

PLEASE get her spayed in 6-8 weeks for her health and for the fact that millions of kittens and cats are euthanized every year.

Don't worry sweet last year the same thing happened to my cat and the kitten was fine. The other 2 that she had were born without a problem. And to make things even better i kept the kitten and she gave birth today as well. 3 ginger and 2 tabby..everything will be OK you watch.
well there are no real answers to your question. it all depends. i just hope and pray that your cat sushi and all her kittens will pull through okay
