In other words the cat's are messing up my lawn when they go potty.

Sprinkle pepper in the area. When they sniff to go they will be discouraged and move on.
Or spray an animal repellent
if the cat is doing it in regualr places sprinkle pepper around the area it will soon find somewhere else or put a litter tray on the hard surface with either earth or cat litter from the store

Sprinkle some cayenne pepper on your lawn. Regular pepper will help. We did this to keep our cats from messing up the Christmas tree.
put a electric fence around your yard
Even though it is probably too late, try putting cayenne pepper as a boundary around your yard. It will keep the cat away, but you may need to reapply it to keep its potency.
